I have been involved with narrow gauge railways for over forty years, starting as a fireman on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway. After a short period of building 3.5″ and 5″ gauge locomotives with my father, I then joined the fledgling Welsh Highland Railway at Gelerts Farm in 1979, driving and firing Karen, Russell and Gelert. In 1994 I joined the South Tynedale Railway and was fortunate to become Chairman for three years and Steam Examiner for locomotives at the Railway. I decided to concentrate on building my business whilst doing my full time job in the agricultural sector. However, since January 2013 I have focused everything on John Sutton Books & Models full time.
Plans for the future include developing a range of new products . In the meanwhile I attend galas and open days at a variety of railways. I also attend model rail exhibitions. You can find a list of events I will be attending in my calendar, however invitations to quality exhibitions and railway events always welcomed.
My expertise lies in narrow gauge and industrial railways. If I don’t have in stock the particular book you are looking for, please contact me and I will endeavour to find it for you through the many contacts I have in the trade.
On the model side of the business, I specialise in 32mm and 45mm live steam and diesel locomotives, new and secondhand. I have accounts with Roundhouse, Accucraft and Regner. I welcome the opportunity to quote for individual requirements.
I also stock Oxford N gauge and OO vehicles.
